MEDITERRANEO AGAIN!

... And here is Mediterraneo 11! A new, bright and colorful statement ring, made with a gorgeous piece of Mediterranean beach pottery, collected by me on a beautiful beach on the Italian Riviera. I have painted the original glaze in a vibrant Mediterranean blue and added a dimensional golden spiral.

There we go! A new ring has joined my Mediterraneo collection! A gorgeous piece of beach pottery, collected by me on a beautiful beach in Rhodes. The original glaze shows an interesting dotted pattern, and I have highlighted it with acrylic paints.

Inspired by the Aegean: IOANNA'S VERY CHIC

The blue Aegean, with its magical sun-kissed islands, is an endless source of inspiration to many artists... And I love seeing my beloved Aegean Sea and the Islands through their eyes and their inspiration. Today I have the pleasure to make you meet one of them... Ioanna lives on the beautiful island of Skyros, in the Sporades. Ioanna's joyful and colorful ceramic work is deeply inspired by the colors and light of the Aegean Sea and Islands. When asked about her inspiration, she replies: "My inspiration? Nothing else but the sun, the blue of the Aegean, the flowers of my garden and the white, almost minimal, houses of Greek islands!". 
Ioanna is a graduate from the School of Fine Arts of Athens, and she runs her own ceramic workshop. She says: "Creation for me is freedom and with my colors I express the beauty of life!" Love-Light-Joy are this lovely artist's motto! And you can really see her passion and love for life and color in her gorgeous ceramic and terracotta work. Ioanna tells us that "Since the day I was born, I knew I was going to deal with colors and shapes! My character's feature? Being so optimistic. And this can be seen in my work. I love to create little masterpieces, each one as unique as the person who will choose it. It's my life's philosophy to use beautiful colours, bringing out all the harmony that my soul can hide. Each piece has a story to tell. Every step I take, I do it with passion and love for my creations. From the moment I will touch the clay to the final moment I will take them out of the kiln and feel the joy of seeing something 'alive' in my hands!"
Ioanna's artist statement is: "Light, joy, love and passion are what I create and what I mostly want to give to you through my work". I love beach pottery... you find it walking on a beautiful beach, and every piece has its own story. I love the way the sea or ocean models a piece making it smooth and soft in shape, and I love the fact that beach pottery is the expression of the culture of a specific country or sea shore. Beach pottery found on the shores of the Mediterranean is so different in design and textures from the one found on the shores of Scotland, or of Maine... and again, beach pottery gathered on the shores of a Greek island is so different in design from Italian beach pottery, or Spanish beach pottery. The glazings on beach pottery finds are often amazing, and make for gorgeous pieces of jewelry just left as they are.

Thank you for loving my new Mediterraneo ring! :) Since you liked the idea of making rings out of beach pottery, I decided to show you more rings I made out of beach pottery... some using the pieces as they were, some highlighted with paint or combined with copper wire and beads.

Mediterraneo 1, 2, 3 and 5 are already sold, Mediterraneo 4, 6, 7 and 8 are still available :) Mediterraneo 1 to 6 are all made with Italian beach pottery, Mediterraneo 7 and 8 are made from Greek beach pottery.

And this is my "trilogy" Anime Gemelle / Insieme / Dall'Eternità ('twin souls together since eternity'), which I had dedicated to my soulmate! Dall'Eternità is already sold, Anime Gemelle and Insieme are still available. All the three pieces were made out of Italian beach pottery finds (Riviera).

TERRACOTTA AND GREEN

On a hot summer day (the heatwave is slowly drawing to a close and we had a short rain yesterday... my first rain in over 3 months!!!), I photographed this ring which I had made some time ago... and it's now available in my Etsy shop too!
A lovely little piece of Mediterranean beach pottery, hand picked on a beautiful beach of the Riviera, set on an antiqued brass base and framed by two lovely lampwork glass beads... I find it has an oriental feel... reminds me of souks and spices and warm Moroccan colors...
